What Is a Pledged Asset Line?
A pledged asset line lets you borrow against the value of your investment portfolio without selling your positions. Think of it like a home equity line of credit — but instead of using your house as collateral, you’re using your investment account.
This means you can access liquidity for major expenses, business opportunities, or short-term needs while your investments stay fully invested and continue working for you. You’re not forced to sell at an inopportune time, trigger capital gains taxes, or disrupt your long-term strategy.
Why It Matters
Most people don’t know this option exists. When they need cash, they either sell investments (potentially at a loss or with tax consequences) or they take on traditional debt. A pledged asset line gives you a third option — one that keeps your portfolio intact and your strategy on track.
